Drakenstein Stud’s prominent resident sire What A Winter had yet another big pay on Sunday when his three-year-old son Seeking The One defied a wide draw to capture the R600 000 The Ready To Run Stakes (1400m) at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.
Trained by Brett Crawford, Seeking The One was given a superb ride by Louis Mxothwa, who did well to get his mount to overcome his draw of twelve.

Sent for home with 200m left to run, the Klawervlei Stud bred Seeking The One kept finding more in the closing stages and stayed on gamely to repel the well fancied Piroshka and score by a neck.

Out of the Count Dubois mare Schism, Seeking The One, who ran third on debut to the sensational Charles Dickens, has now won twice from just five starts with Sunday’s win pushing the colt’s earnings to R351 500.

South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs in 2020-2021, and Leading First Season Sire of 2016-2017 , What A Winter is having another fine season in 2022-2023.

Varsfontein Stud’s homebred stallion Master Of My Fate has already enjoyed a fine run of success in 2022-2023 thus far, and the son of Jet Master’s season got better still when his son Han Solo captured Friday’s Listed TAB4Racing Algoa Cup (2000m) in convincing style.

Demoted to second after finishing first past the post in the Listed Hollywoodbets Settlers Trophy last time out, the Glen Kotzen trained Han Solo made amends for that setback with a fluent display in Friday’s R350 000 contest.
Under a confident ride from Calvin Habib, the six-year-old gelded son of Master Of My Fate came from well off the pace and powered home down the inside of the track to win going away by three-parts of a length.

Sent off a well backed tote favourite for Friday’s Algoa Cup, the Judy Wintle bred Han Solo has now won five of 19 starts with the previously luckless Han Solo finishing second in all of his four starts prior to the Algoa Cup.

Maine Chance Farms’ prominent sire Querari looks to have yet another talented daughter to his name in the form of Bonete.

That three-year-old made a sparkling debut at the Vaal on Thursday when Bonete romped home to claim the Furious Room Now Open Maiden Plate (1450m) in taking fashion.

Under Randall Simons, the Mike de Kock trained Bonete justified plenty of pre-race hype when running away to score on debut by four and three-quarter lengths.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Bonete is out of the Fort Wood mare Ilha Bela.

She joins a growing list of classy fillies sired by Querari, whose star daughters thus far include G1 Thekwini Stakes queen Querari Falcon, and fellow graded stakes winners Caya Coco, Cockney Pride, Cosmic Light, Galla Vanting, Gobsmacked, Homely Girl, Maryah and Supreme Quest.
Another daughter, Champery, is the dam of last season’s G1 WSB Cape Fillies Guineas winner Chansonette.

Drakenstein Stud’s highly successful sire What A Winter continues to churn out eye catching winners and the multiple Equus Champion was at it again at the Vaal on Thursday when What A Winter filly Lil Miss Moneybags made a cracking winning debut.

Under a strong ride from Ryan Munger, three-year-old Lil Miss Moneybags showed tremendous courage to hold off a wall of challenges and land Thursday’s #ThisIsRacing Welcomes You Maiden Plate (F&M) over 1000m by a neck.
Trained by Ashley Fortune, Lil Miss Moneybags was bred by Willem Engelbrecht Jr.

Out of the West Man mare Miss Moneybags, Lil Miss Moneybags was a R150 000 buy from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.

Her four time G1 winning sire What A Winter, whose flagbearers last season included such notable graded stakes winners as Miss Cool and Winter Smoke, has made a cracking start to the 2022-2023 racing season with his notable representatives thus far headed by G2 Topbet Joburg Spring Challenge F&M winner Humdinger.

Two out of two for Twice Over colt

Klawervlei Stud’s successful sire, and former European champion, Twice Over looks to have a very smart son to his name in the form of Champion Waerrior

The latter made it two wins from two starts when romping home to a clear-cut win at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday, and Champion Warrior looks destined for bigger and better things.
Under Louix Mxothwa, the Brett Crawford trained three-year-old had impressed when winning on debut back in September and the Klawervlei Stud bred colt built on that win with a fine performance on Wednesday.

Champion Warrior, who had impressed in the parade ring and canter past, simply blew his rivals away when running out a fluent, two length winner of Wednesday’s Racecape Powered by Hollywoodbets MR 78 Handicap (1250m).

His four time G1 winning sire Twice Over, also responsible for this season’s Listed Topbet Spring Spree Stakes hero Team Gold, had an outstanding season in 2021-2022 where his flagbearers included G1 Cape Guineas winner Double Superlative as well as the likes of Do It Again and Smorgasbord.

Varsfontein Stud’s red hot resident sire Master Of My Fate looks to have a really smart prospect on his hands in the form of promising three-year-old filly Broadway Girl.

The latter put up a dazzling performance when romping home to a brilliant, three and a half length win in Sunday’s Beach Beauty Mile (Non-Black Type) (1600m) run at Hollywoodbets Greyville.

Under Keagan De Melo, Broadway Girl raced towards the back of the field early on, before being unleashed in the straight.
From there, it was just a matter of who would run second, as Broadway Girl powered home to score impressively by three and a half lengths.

Trained, like Beach Beauty, by Dennis Drier, the Boland Stud bred Broadway Girl has now won two of five starts and is yet to finish out of the top four.

Out of the Dynasty mare Nzinga, Broadway Girl has a Captain Of All half-brother on offer at this year’s November Two Year Old Sale.

She was one of two winners for her sire at Greyville on Sunday, with Master Of My Fate also responsible for Sunday’s fifth race winner Sea Master. That Varsfontein Stud bred five-year-old powered home, under Richard Fourie, to register a fourth career victory with a game score over 2300 metres. Trained by Carl Hewitson, Sea Master has now finished first or second in each of his past six races!

Master Of My Fate had also enjoyed success at Turffontein the previous day where his Boland Stud bred daughter Hollywoodbound claimed victory in the day’s eighth race on the card.

Drakenstein’s evergreen champion sire Trippi has been in explosive form of late and the End Sweep son’s great form continued at Turffontein on Saturday afternoon where Trippi filly Iphiko continued her winning streak.
In landing Saturday’s Santos Trade Afrik Middle Stakes (1000m), four-year-old Ipihko made it four wins on the bounce, and four wins from just eight starts in total.

Under Richard Fourie, the Mike de Kock trained filly flew home to score impressively by two and a half lengths in Saturday’s contest.

Bred by Team Valor International, Iphiko is out of the Western Winter mare Valor Red and is thus bred on the same Trippi/Western Winter cross as exported G1 SA Classic victor Lobo’s Legend.

South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2015-2016, Trippi had an outstanding weekend last week when his son Trip Of Fortune was awarded victory in the G3 Hollywoodbets Matchem Stakes and his daughter Santa Maria victorious in the same day’s G3 Diana Stakes.

Currently responsible for 89 stakes winners, Trippi has been responsible for more South African stakes winners than any other sire thus far this season.

Drakenstein Stud’s four time G1 winning sire Futura has had another fine week, and the former Horse Of The Year came up with two more impressive winners at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday afternoon.

His exciting three-year-old son Le Morne made it three wins from three starts when justifying tote favouritism in Wednesday’s seventh race, the Hollywoodbets Grooms Initiative MR 74 Handicap (1400m).
Under an inform Louix Mxothwa, the Brett Crawford trained Le Morne was given a confident ride which saw the Futura colt blast home to beat older rival Tizona by nearly half a length, while conceding the runner up weight.

Bred by Maine Chance Farms, the promising Le Morne, who looks a colt of considerable promise, had won his only two previous starts when scoring over 1400m at Kenilworth and Durbanville respectively.

Out of the Kahal mare Khonza, Le Morne was a R140 000 buy from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.

Varsfontein Stud’s champion sire Gimmethegreenlight is closely related to one of the most exciting fillies currently racing in Australia.
Promising three-year-old Cinderella Days made it three wins from just four starts when making all to win over 1250m at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Cinderella Days defeated the tenacious American Pharoah colt Cool Kaap by a long neck, with a further six and a quarter lengths back to the Casino Prince colt Surfers Royale in third.

Trainer Joe Pride said after the impressive win that Cinderella Days would likely spell with an eye to the 3yo riches in the autumn after taking her record to three wins and a third from four starts.

A homebred for David Bentata, Cinderella Days is a half-sister to G3 VRC The Bart Cummings winner Persan (by Pierro) and she is out 2012 G1 ATC Coolmore Classic heroine Ofcourseican.
The latter is a Mossman half-sister to Gimmethegreenlight -South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2020-2021.

Gimmethegreenlight’s legacy looks set to grow further in the coming years-not only is he broodmare sire of last season’s G1 Allan Robertson Championship winner Sweet Pepper, his five time G1 winning son Got The Greenlight recently had his first mares test safely in foal.

Drakenstein Stud’s four time G1 winning stallion What A Winter enjoyed a sensational day on Saturday, with the former Equus Champion supplying Saturday’s G2 Topbet Joburg Spring F&M Challenge winner Humdinger and two impressive winners at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on the same day.

The Mike de Kock trained Humdinger claimed her biggest win to date when she won Saturday’s R300 000 Joburg Spring F&M Challenge in fine style.
Under a well judged ride from JP Van Der Merwe, Humdinger made all to score a front running win by a neck at the expense of stable mate, and multiple graded stakes winner, Desert Miracle.

Bred by Ridgemont Highlands, the classy Humdinger was winning her second black type race, with the four-year-old also victorious in the Listed Off To Stud Stakes last time out. The filly, a winner of her last three starts, has now won five times from 13 outings overall.
Out of the Fort Wood mare Himalayan Hill, Humdinger is bred on the same What A Winter/Fort Wood cross as fellow stakes winners Fort Winter and Glacier Gold.

She was a R180 000 buy from the 2020 National 2YO Sale.

What A Winter progeny also accounted for the first two races run at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday afternoon.

His son Georgie George romped home to a facile win when successful in the first race on the Durbanville card, with that Harold Crawford/Michelle Rix trained gelding running out a two and a quarter length winner of the Hollywoodbets Durbanville Welcomes You Maiden Special Weights on Saturday.

What A Winter is also the sire of the very exciting Love In Winter, who made it two wins from two starts when he claimed Saturday’s Follow Cape Racing On Social Media Middle Stakes. That Klawervlei Stud bred four-year-old powered home, under Sean Veale, to win impressively by a length and a half, and Love In Winter looks destined for bigger and better things.
Trained by Vaughan Marshall, Love In Winter, who is out of the Dark Angel mare Lost In Love, had won his only previous start when skating home to beat the aforementioned Georgie George by two and a quarter lengths last month.
