28th Aug ’22 Cape Breeders report:
Varsfontein Stud’s champion resident sire Gimmethegreenlight dominated proceedings at the recent August Two Year Old Sale.
Not only did the former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate supply the top priced lot sold off the August Sale, but Gimmethegreenlight ended the two day auction as Leading Sire by Aggregate.
Gimmethegreenlight had eight lots on offer -all of whom sold for a gross total of R6.75million at this year’s August Two Year Old Sale. South Africa’s former champion sire’s two-year-olds averaged an impressive R843 750 at the sale.
Gimmethegreenlight also supplied the R3 800 000 sales topping colt Yes We Can (Lot 91), who was consigned by Wilgerbosdrift and knocked down to Form Bloodstock.
Out of G3 Starling Stakes winner Sarasota, the well bred Yes We Can is a half-brother to two winners including Listed Storm Bird Stakes third place-getter Hope Is Power.
His sire had two other lots fetch upwards of R500 000 at the 2022 August Two Year Old Sale, with Gimmethegreenlight’s daughter (Lot 92) out of Savannah Leigh knocked down for R600 000, and Gimmethegreenlight filly Let’s Go Now (Lot 114) making R540 000 at the sale.
South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2020-2021, Gimmethegreenlight also enjoyed success on the racetrack on Saturday where his son Money Heist ran out a convincing winner at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.
