15th Aug ’22 Cape Breeders report:

Varsfontein Stud’s champion sire Gimmethegreenlight enjoyed a good day at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday.

The former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate was responsible for two smart winners at Scottsville, with Gimmethegreenlight’s son Imperial Order making a promising debut when finishing third in Sunday’s third race, and daughter Grue Of Ice running second in the eighth race.

Gimmethegreenlight’s blue blooded son Cheeky Laddie made the perfect start to his racing career when he made a winning debut on Sunday.
The Dean Kannemeyer trained three-year-old just got up to win in the shadow of the post when victorious in Sunday’s Sunil Singh And Associates Maiden Plate (1200m). Under Keagan De Melo, Cheeky Laddie dug down deep to score by a short head, with the flashy grey showing plenty of promise on debut.

Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Cheeky Laddie was the top priced yearling sold at the 2021 National Yearling Sale when knocked down to Form Bloodstock for R2.8 million.

Bred on the same cross as G1 winner Gunner, Cheeky Laddie is out of the Captain Al sired mare All Is Secret, the Equus Champion 2YO Filly of 2012.

His sire struck again in the very next race when Gimmethegreenlight gelding Osceola stayed on strongly to land Sunday’s The Cable Man Maiden Plate (2400m). Under Calvin Ngcobo, three-year-old Osceola powered away down the outside of the track to shed his maiden by over a length and a half.
Bred by Ridgemont Highlands, Osceola is out of the Antonius Pius mare Dinesen.

South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2020-2021, Gimmethegreenlight is currently responsible for 44 stakes winners.
The son of More Than Ready has ten lots on offer at the upcoming August Two Year Old Sale.
