Varsfontein Stud’s champion resident sire Gimmethegreenlight’s fantastic season with his two-year-olds continued on Friday when his son Port Louis won the Listed Champion Juvenile Cup (1400m) at Fairview.

Runner up in the G3 World Sports Betting Langerman last time out, the Brett Crawford trained gelding showed plenty of heart in Friday’s R200 000 race.

Under Louis Mxothwa, Port Louis fought out a thrilling duel with eventual runner up Khaya’s Hope before edging out that rival to win by a short head.
It was another four and three-quarter lengths back to third place finisher Forest Spy.
Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Port Louis has now won twice from just six starts.

Out of the Qui Danzig mare Winning Eyes, Port Louis was a R260 000 buy from the 2021 Cape Yearling Sale.

He is the 44th stakes winner for Gimmethegreenlight, South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2020-2021.

Gimmethegreenlight has had a fine season with his two-year-olds this season including not only Port Louis but also G3 Langerman winner Light Speed, G3 Cape Racing Cape Of Good Hope Nursery runner up Wecangoallnight and the promising Countdown.

A son of outstanding sire More Than Ready, Gimmethegreenlight has 11 lots on offer at the upcoming August Two Year Old Sale.
