30th Sep ’22 Cape Breeders Report:
Drakenstein Stud’s red hot resident stallion What A Winter made headlines at Turffontein on Thursday when the former sprint champion came up with two eye catching winners.
what a winter
What A Winter fillies Asiye Phambili and Winter Muse filled the first two placings when they finished first and second respectively in Thursday’s #ThisIsRacing Welcomes You Maiden Plate (3-year-old fillies) over 1200 metres.
The Sean Tarry trained Asiye Phambili duly justified tote favouritism when she ran out a convincing one and a quarter length winner of Thursday’s race. Her paternal half-sister Winter Muse also caught the eye on Thursday when finishing a good second on debut.
Bred by the Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud, Asiye Phambili had finished second in her only two previous starts.
Out of the Rambo Dancer mare Cast A Spell, Asiye Phambili is a full-sister to G2 Western Cape Fillies Championship runner up Trickster.
What A Winter is also the sire of exciting three-year-old Far Away Winter, who made it three wins from just five starts when victorious in Thursday’s TAB 4Racing App Graduation Plate over 1000 metres.
Under Diego De Gouveia, the gelded Far Away Winter swept into the lead close home before pulling away to score by a length and a half.
Trained by Michael and Adam Azzie, Far Away Winter has now won two in a row for owner-breeder Drakenstein Stud, and he looks most progressive.
