Stallions
The Thoroughbred Group - eNews

Hello Everyone

We have many requests for update on the whereabouts and wellbeing of our stallions. The 3 new champs are very popular so we thought you'd enjoy a brief update:

ARGONAUT is at Cheveley and is due to cover his first mare this afternoon. Vaughan went to Cape Town to fetch him from quarantine himself and is delighted with the horse. "Big strong horse with a fantastic temperament" - a description worth gold for any breeder.

JAY PEG has settled in well with John Koster at Klawervlei and Etienne Braun went to see him on Sunday and sent us several pictures, incl. the one below which shows just how happy he is to be there. Great head shot - what a super looking chap he is! His half brother Cyber Case won a R135 000 sprint over 1000m this week in 56.3 secs and I also had the chance to see his dam on the farm last week - she has since foaled a Jet Master colt and the families fortunes continue to shine. JAY PEG has a formidable harem lined up this season (the who is who of the breeding world are sending to him) and has already covered three mares. John's report of his first covering was fantastic. No shortage of the wherewithal and he got the job done well.

REBEL KING has already covered two mares and is a very popular horse indeed.

PS: Remiss of me not to report in my most recent news letter that BADGER'S DRIFT is still at Cheveley Stud. Controlling interest in the stallion was bought by Riverworld Stud some time ago but the horse remains with Vaughan Koster alongside Argonaut for the coming season. Badger's Drift is now known as the new "giant killer" in our circles since his son IVORY TRAIL beat dual horse of the year and serial champion Pocket Power in the Gr1 Champion Stakes in new RACE RECORD TIME. A truly remarkable achievement and certainly not a fluke:- he broke a record that has stood for 35 years and carried 3.5kgs more than the previous record holder, a fantastic training feat by Joey Ramsden and a worthy win for Jack Mitchell and his daughter Nancy:

Course Record: Sabre (51,5kg - 106.00s - 27 July 1974) Race Record: African Appeal (54.0kgs - 106.66s - 28 July 2009 IVORY TRAIL - 54.5kgs - 105.41 - 25 July 2009

We are looking for Goldmark mares or any mares with Golden Thatch or his tribe in their pedigrees. We have long advocated the mating of that sire line's daughters to stallions with Sadler's Wells in their pedigrees and would like to make sure that DUPONT gets some this year. His dam is by Sadler's Wells and linebreeding with him to Goldmark mares particularly since he carries the daughter strain is most desirable. Check out the pedigree of BIG CITY LIFE.
